French general charles de gaul visited england during the blitzkreg invasion of france. He offered his services as a radio broadcaster to those still loyal to free France. Churchill was reluctant at first, but gave him permission after he promised not to say anything that could be read as treachery by the new french government. The two nations worked out an agreement under which unoccupied parts of france were to be ruled by a French government based in vichy.
