Are Assessments a Good Idea?

There's always plenty of assessments out in the marketplace that people can use. The whole notion of assessments is kind of a broad area, and a lot of times it's customer beware. And if we stick with individual development, I think it's safer than trying to do this too broadly. So what exactly is the person going to be getting out of this assessment? What is the actual value added?
