If you throw an electron in, the black hole is going to gain a negative charge. But that charge doesn't just go away. Just before it fell into the black hole, there was an electric field there. It's sort of frozen in time from the last moment just before the electron crossed the event horizon. No more information can update it. The whole black hole now has an electric charge.
