The Complexity of Conflict
Sometimes I'm on my Twitter alt and I want to say something that is a bit provocative. You're right that the way you described it is ambiguous or at least multi-layered humans. People who enjoy mountaineering or boxing have reinterpreted the entire experience of being in a state of unpleasant conflict from a new angle, which makes that a complex and desirable thing to turn to one's advantage. The same would be true of the situation of wanting to eat cake or rebelling against one's parents or the law and breaking the law.
