Spolsky noticed that mind changing is easier when you're younger. He worked up a survey to look at people's preferences in food, music and so on. The equivalent of ten year old lab rats hate brockaly as much as ten year old humans do. And late adolescent's, early adult hood, there's this sudden craving for novelty.
There are a lot of barriers to changing your mind: ego, overconfidence, inertia — and cost. Politicians who flip-flop get mocked; family and friends who cross tribal borders are shunned. But shouldn’t we be encouraging people to change their minds? And how can we get better at it ourselves?
