The Singular Forms of the Pronoun

The singular thou and thee was relegated to only the most friendly and intimate relationships. It was basically used with one's closest friends and family members. Those terms became so restricted that they soon started to fall out of use altogether. But there was another situation where those traditional intimate singular forms were used, and that was in religious text. Traditionally, these singular forms were the standard way to refer to god. Today, many modern english speakers think of those terms as being very formal, they have a sense of reverence and respect.
