Is the Cosmological Constant a Constant?

Until very recently, it seemed like there was a fixed amount of dark energy. But as these measurements got more and more precise, then a problem emerged. Now the universe seems to be expanding at late times, more quickly than we can explain. So that's the question, is the cosmological constant actually a constant?
