The Presupposition That Casuality Works in This Way
One of the things that unites all of these figures is the presupposition that causality works in this way. The church fathers can talk about God graciously giving us salvation 100%, it's something that he gives us, that he affects us and so on. They also talk about salvation as something that we have a participatory role in, that he enables. As an agent we are the pens that can choose to draw or not draw unless you're an hamburger,. He as the primary cause is willing, that's what he wishes to do, but the pen has free will."
