The End of Politics

Every art aims at some end. But if we do not know the end, the purpose of politics, then naturally we're going to be incompetent at it. So what is that end? Politics aims at living well together. To live well, you must pursue virtue. And so we must have a sense not merely of what things are good, but what the highest good is. Every society will punish blasphemy against what it considers to be the highest good. A century ago, we punished people for publicly mocking an infinite creator God. Today, we punishedPeople for publicly mocking the idea of an infinite, self-creating man who can turn himself into a woman.
