Interviews Aren't Enough
The way a candidate handles themselves after an interview can affect the decision making process. Interviews are not enough, you need to know how they work and their ability to merge tasks. A person who is very self aware will be more likely to get unstuck in real-life situations than someone who doesn't have that level of knowledge. The first six months with your new team member should be spent levelling them up in the language but also teaching them other skills such as writing python code or pair programming. There's no perfect job for everyone so don't rush into hiring anyone unless you're absolutely sure it's worth it.
