I wanted to be that parent who responded to all of my baby's needs, breastfeed on demand, co-slip. I thought if I could just learn enough about being a parent then I would be prepared for anything. When I failed to see in the perfect mom narrative was that A, she was unattainable and B, despite her desire to create the perfect family with her perfectionism, she would only continue to disappoint herself when she didn't live up to the impossible standard. It wasn't until a friend of mine from school suggested that I look into hand-in-hand parenting that things shifted.
