He was responding to comments made by journalist edward luce, who said he had never come across a political force more nealistic, dangerous and contemptiblethan today's republicans. The easy response here is that both men are just dumb and wrong. But there's actually another word to consider, and that's calculated. What they're doing is stoking hysteria and panic amongst american, especially liberals.
