In the past two or three years, studies have shown a link between social media use and depression in teens. This is particularly high for girls where you go from 11% depression rate for girls who don't use social media to almost a 40% depression rates for girls who use four to five hours of social media. John Hite looked at Przbilski and Orban's data set and said they were trying to reduce the negative impact by lumping together all teens,. boys and girls while many studies have found that the correlations with harm are larger for girls. And so let's get to the third act of this story: The consensus begins to emerge on what I call 'smartphone harms
