Donovan: I think it's an important way of moving away from an anthropocentric understanding of the origins of human beings and moralities. But at the same time also moving away from the animalistic picture, because that pushes us in certain ways. Instead think of a plant. What does a plant want? A plant wants to grow. It wants light. It wants sun. So it's a very different way of thinking about our motivation. That's very against the grain of the humanistic tradition. And all of this ultimately goes back to this debate about the nature of will to power,. His understanding of our motivation, and the conflicting conceptions of higher types.
