The Story of Maggie and Michael

Maggie was hugely influenced by her father, who taught her to question everything. For a time, Maggie was able to attend a girls boarding school called Clavarack. She had crushes on girls, though she describes them as being pure and non-erotic. But in 1898, her older sister, who was paying tuition out of her paycheck from a job in Buffalo, could no longer afford to keep Maggie in the school. Without graduating, Maggie also had to let go of her dream of attending Cornell to become a doctor. Instead, she tried her hand at teaching, which did not go well, and ultimately returned home to nurse her dying mother and care for her younger siblings
