How India Modernizes Relationships With Israel

The move to improve relations with Israel begins in the period just before the Cold War ends. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son Rajiv Gandhi are basically the architects of that. Rajiv Gandhi, in particular, saw the project of liberalization or the joining of the global economy as linked with being close to Israel. So if India wants to modernize, in other words, they got to be close to Israel and close to the US.
