What Did Peter Higgs Suggest?

Peter Higgs found a mathematical trick, as we thought, that got around the show stopper and showed there was a way forward. It also explained how fundamental particles can gain their mass. So em does this mysterious higgs field, which is all around us,. The fact that it's switched on makes it possible for those particles to get a mass because they are all coupled to this fielda. I think the really extraordinary thing about it is that you can bash this field and it rings like a bell. And the excitations of this field when you hit it, are another particle themselves. And that's what people discovered at the l h c.
