It's not the same to perform a hysterectomy on like a 70 year old lady with an atrophic uterus than to perform one on a pregnant patient or immediately postpartum patient. The uterus is going to be very, you know, enlarged and the vessels around the uterus are going to be engorged. And so it's very, very morbid. Unfortunately there's not much for preventive agents. But tranexamic acid may decrease the maternal mortality associated with PPH. They recommend it's used within three hours of the onset of the hemorrhage.
