The Role of Education in Peace Building
Ilyse Hogue: I've been leading or co-leading a research consortium between the University of Amsterdam and the University of Ulster. Her team is trying to understand inequality and education in ways that are probably more robust than those being put forward by others, she says. They say international community's approach to peace building was "a kind of security first liberal peace approach" And they argue it produced a kind of negative peace; violence stopped but reasons for conflict remained. She says their analysis led them to develop social justice plus recognition, reconciliation approach.
