Blackadder: A History of Comedy
I grew up watching Blackadder. My children grew up watching Mae Marion and her Mary Men, which is another fantastic series I absolutely loved. Why do you think history and comedy work so well together? Do we like to laugh at people from the past, or does it just need to be more than that? And if you notice an awful lot of our best playwrights would set their plays in the old days,. even though, by and large, what they were discussing was contemporary issues. Put them in the past and you can see the issues, the problems, the politics, the manipulations, so much clearer. That's what Shakespeare did, isn't it, time and time again
