Men have had a worse deal on friendships than women since the early seventies. When men get bereaved or they get divorced, they have worse mental and physical health outcomes because they are more isolated. One of the big reasons men have less close friendships is these kind of unspoken rules about how we go about being men that maybe get in the way of us having closer bonds.
