In Wall-E, machines are doing all productive labor in society. John Maynard Keynes predicted his grandchildren would be working for less than 15 hours a week. But how about the people who actually enjoy what they do? What happens to that sort of work? Arjun: I consider myself one of those people and I would love to keep doing this job even if all my functional needs were met.

From infantry to air defences and even electronic warfare, improved strategies and engineering could threaten Ukraine’s counter-offensive plans. How can these ramped-up defences be breached? What would a world of superintelligent AI look like? We use economic theory to conduct a thought experiment. And a tribute to the British novelist Martin Amis.
