Is Childbirth Difficult?

I was just trying to understand, strictly from a scientific and, in this case, evolutionary prospective, if perhaps, when people say that it's a problem, it wasn't as problematic as people make it. I've even been challenged by some of my grantes to say, don't call it childbirth difficulty, because the more you say it's difficult, you reinforce the idea. But again, it's not necessarily the experience that is the evolutionarily relevant question. It's just whether or not it happens successfully, and both mother and infant are are healthy and able to continue their er sort of normal daily behaviour once it's over.
