I'm a Girlfriend, and I Want to Ask Her to Marry Me

Am i allowed to ask my wonderful girl friend to marry me first? And is it unfair on their boy friends if I step on their toes? Also, an etiquette question for william. Am i expected to still pay three months salary on the ring? My girl friend isn't even slightly materialistic, and if i'm honest, i prefer to save money on giving her a magical wedding day.
