Alzheimer's and HSV1

HSV1, which is the most common variant of the virus, lies dormant within the brain. But once it's activated, it leads to the growth of proteins that lead to a loss of brain function. Around 3.7 billion people under the age of 50 have been infected with HSV1. The researchers say this is only one pathway to Alzheimer's but they think that other inflammatory events could occur in the brain that can cause the disease.
