You can control semiconductors to conduct like a conductor or a metal. Sometimes you want them to stop the flow of electrons or electricity. So what you're saying is that you can have a switch made out of silicon. If you could put a big enough electronic voltage across it, it may jump over what's supposed to be a closed switch.
