i'm not one of these psychologists who go on about how stupid we are, because i think every demonstration of human stupidity or irrationality has contained with it a demonstration of our intelligence. Whatever your moral philosophy is, you shouldn't think that one life is worth more than eight, let alone worth more than 100. But then he goes on to point out that the death of thousands is far greater tragedy than the loss of our finger. And dualism, this duality that fascinates me, between what our gutt tells us and what our minds tell us, i believe.
