i'm a child of the seventies, and i remember growing up in a sort of smoke of confusion as to what the hell was going on. I always think it's really interesting when you look at the u.K. imperial units that are still commonly in use - they are intensely personal. We measure our height and our weight in stones and ounces and pounds and feet an inches. And we talk about distances, how we travel about the world, often in miles. So this is the thing that these units are not just a, is not about the precision of them. It's not just about whether they are rational or scientifically fitted to the task.
