CHAPTER

The Power of Predictions

Your emotions are predictions, they're predictions that are confirmed by the world. Your brain prepares itself to see and hear and taste and smell and feel things before they happen. So for example, if I ask you to imagine in your mind's eye a red and green apple, like a Macintosh apple that you eat, can you imagine in yourmind's eye what that apple looks like? Yes. Some people can even taste the apple. And when you can hear the crunch and taste the apple, something similar is happening in the neurons in vestatory cortex and in auditory cortex. That's really remarkable.
