The Role of Reserves in the Banking System

Japanese banks actually shrunk their lending book in this five to seven years period I analyzed. How is that possible? It's very simple. Banks don't lend reserves. That's not how it works. A bank lends, it creates new credit. These also creates a new deposit into the banking system. The entire banking system will now have more assets and more liabilities at the same time.
