When you've lost a parent very young you develop quite a thick skin. I think it's partly why I enjoyed school so much because I sort of threw myself into another world that wasn't the domestic world. My mother was in a thought mix and I found an alternative place where I could make very strong friendships, which is what I did.

Ian Hislop became editor of the British satirical magazine Private Eye at just 25, in his 37 years as editor he has been reported as the most sued man in English legal history.
