Historiansplaining: A historian tells you why everything you know is wrong
How Did the Caribbean Society Come About?
Caribbean islands were created by volcanic and sismic activity. Most of the population of the west indies was tino, a tribal confederation group that spoke a language in the arawak family. The carabs travelled in large sea going canoes, so they could move quickly from island to island. And that gave them a tremendous advantage in the west indians. In some ways, you could see them as kind of comparable to vikings, sort of attacking and raiding tino towns and settlements.
