Why Should We Overturn a Precedent That's Only Seven Years Old?
The supreme court has overturned precedents many times in the past ten or 15 years. The chief justice was asking, are we supposed to change it just because we have a bunch of new judges? So that was his question. But by the supreme court's own precedente, they can overturn precedent when times have changed. That is, when social conditions have changed,. Social understandings have changed, or a legal approaches have changed.
