The Social Gospel

The social justice idea can be expressed in a number of contexts. It arose from jesuit priests as what arose in a religious context, it was probably most thoroughly developed in the earliest part of the 19 hundreds by walter roshenbuch. Many of the ideas of social s were already embedded within the the broad idea of liberalism. And so we have this whole line of thought about making society more fair and more just that can be analyzed through critical theory. We saw this very clearly in the civil rights movement in the sixties where you had the black power aspect up against the universal liberal aspect with one another.
