Skepticism and the Ancient Skeptics
The father of modern scepticism was descartes, who proposed radical doubt as a stepping stone towards reaching conclusions that could not be doubted. In his meditations, descartes subjects all his beliefs to sceptical attack. He also proposes a scenario not unlike the matrix, in which a malicious demon is filling him with false beliefs.
