Samuel and Rebecca's Story
Samuel Bolton escaped three times during the Civil War. He would convince Confederate soldiers that he had been captured by Northern troops but was making his way back home to the plantation. Samuel and Rebecca settled in Alexandria, Virginia where the Union had a stronghold. Towards the end of the Civil War, Samuel fought for the Union army in Massachusetts while Rebecca and their son stayed in Virginia.
