Is There a Separate God Serving as Regent?

Some israelites worshipped ashira as a goddess. They also had them worshipping baal. Baal was the storm god, and he was a in the canaanite pantheon. But they nevertheless are monotheistic. They attribute this all to god. One of my favorite examples of this is actually found in genesis one. It talks about how god is setting up the world,. but he doesn't call them the sun and the moon. He just says they're lights. And so if you used shamash or away to rule the night, it would be interpreted as, yarik made God make the sun and moon god. Don't worship them; they're not gods.
