How to Win the Trust of the Record Industry
Record companies were being assailed from all sides by services like caza, bit, torrent and pirate bay. They saw all streaming as a deathly threat; spotify with its free subscriptions was no different. Daniel had a lot of convincing to do, first, that he wasn't trying to kill the music business, and second, that he could save it. He took a painful short term loss in exchange for the possibility of a long term win. This is exactly the kind of short cut that wins trust: putting your partner's self interest decidedly and dramatically ahead of your own.
