The Left and the Maori Struggle in the 1960s
In the late 1960s, there was this very strong collaboration taking place between Packet-Hell or European New Zealanders and emerging Maori protest movements. They were still actively working to incorporate these radical intellectual traditions, particularly Marxism and feminism into the Maori struggle. One significant event that really brought them together was the exclusion of Maori rugby players from the 1960 All Black Tour of South Africa by the New Zealand rugby football association. And so they were starting to collaborate at this point in time.
