Shirley and Lee were popular enough that they inspired a whole host of imitators. Jean Forrest had been a jobbing singer for several years. He started out recording solo records for John Dolphin's label, recorded in Hollywood. The label name itself tells you something about the rampant racism of American society in the 1950s. Most of the businesses there were originally owned by Japanese people.
