The Cost of Investing in an Aircraft Carrier

An aircraft carrier costs anything between three to $10 billion. It's an incredibly enticing target for the enemy, whoever it is. In the same money, if you invest in 50 different ships of different kinds, you can more effectively control a much larger area and distribute your lethality over a much larger surface area of the ocean. Does it not make more sense? I'm just talking logically. I have nothing against aircraft carriers. I think they're majestic. But that's not something that serves our national interest. We already have two. So I don't know what the Navy's logic is."
