The Fed's Pause in the Hiking Cycle
There is a pretty decent chance that we will get below that point in the consumer price index already before year end. That will allow the Federal Reserve to be positively surprised, you might argue. The European central bank updated its inflation projections just last week and they now expect European core inflation to print on average at 5.1% through the year. And it looks relatively clear to me that we will have surprise on the low side. If housing rebounds as we have very early evidence of, we should probably expect the recession talk to be postponed for another quarter or two.
