Multiple star systems are very common. Some of these stars have planets, but this is the first time they've been found in such a system. It could be to do with the gravitational effects of the stars themselves that are causing this gap. And it has been proposed that this gap could either be formed by a planet that's sucking material into it and causing this gap - or not at all.
