Research shows that hormonal birth control pill use seems to lead to dysregulation in the release of the stress hormone cortisol. And one of the downstream implications for this, of course, is that this could impair women's emotional memory formation. The ability to hold on to emotionally meaningful things is actually really important for mental health and so too is our ability to feel like we can cope with stress.
