The Life and Power of a Call to the Ministry

A call to the ministry consists of an abiding conviction of the divine authority, glory and infinite importance of the work. It is because learning conjoined with piety in the other endowments of a good pastor is a kind of preparation for the office. A man may have been duly called by the church, though he may have been accepted with a bad conscience,. provided his wickedness is not manifest. In God's ordinary calls to the gospel ministry there is the same sovereignty though somewhat otherwise exercised.
