Squirrel Hill Is a Special American Jew Neighborhood
squirrel hill has been jewish longer, i think, it's safe to say, than any other american jew neighborhood. Half of the jews in metropolitan pittsburg live either in squirrel hill or in one of the adjacent neighborhoods within the city limits. Unlike the jews of ston or chicago, the jews did not become an overwhelmingly suburban people. So it's a very, very interesting place in American and world jewish history.
