The Origins of Orientalism

Orientalism goes through three broad phases within eurpe and north america. There's religious orientalism, there's scientific or secular orientalism,. Then the third is anglo-american social sciency, globalized orientalism. Religious orientalism was largely inspired by the idea that christianity had to be the world's religion. It mutated eventually into secular orientalists who tried to understand the orient in accordance with god's will. And this was taken on by philologists, by scientists, by empiricists.
