The Israeli historian Tom Segev in his biography of David Ben-Gurion calls him a Zionist Bolshevik. Israel didn't build a society of kibbutzim, it built a modern nation state with an urban bourgeoisie and proletariat. The people who picked up the pioneer and revolutionary vanguard were the religious Zionists. They are heirs to the tradition of the settling vanguardist tradition of labor Zionism.
Featuring Edo Konrad and Joshua Leifer on how Zionism's long-running contradictions led to the current political crisis in Israel.
