Some people say user testing is not worth your time. But the way that i see user testing is it helps insure that you're building the right thing right out of the gate. You don't necesarily have to spend the money to do a giant test. Even ones where the result was inconclusive, even if we added on say, another 25 people to that test. So this cycle continues as you continue create features. Just keep asking users what they think, wire framing and implementing those. And that round of revision and feeback should be throughout the entire life cycle of the ap.
