Church in the Old Testament?

The word church is an angliciation of the first word of a greek phrase. The normal greek word for church is acclesia, which means assembly. This same word is used in the greek septuagent about a hundred times. So it does have old testament background. And so because of the old testament background of the term yes, peter would have understood jesus was saying he would build his new assembly on him.
